Sam's Last Swimming Lesson

June 22, 2015

Grandpa, Barbara and Grant joined Samuel at his last swimming lesson at the Plant Bath pool. It was a beautiful hot summer day. David played with Grant at the play structure during the lesson. Then they joined Maman and Sam for an hour of free swim. Pizza lunch was next. Sam proudly showed us his graduation card - he had all the areas checked off and most in the next level as well. We were proud of him. The boys enjoyed the water park too - a good way to cool off!

Father's Day Visit

June 21, 2015

Grandpa, Barbara and Grant dropped in to see the Chelsea boys on their way home from the cottage on Sunday. Ross' dad, Jim, and Ross had just made a periscope. The boys had fun trying it out. When Jim told us a phoebe was nesting at his house, they checked out the nest.

Although no phoebe was in sight, a Raven soared overhead.

The boys played outside. Grandpa and Barbara admired the cherry tree in the backyard - neatly covered in netting to prevent birds from eating the fruit.

Grandpa opened a gift bag - some "tubing" rope and a spoon lure from Kirk and Sam. David sat quietly looking at pictures in the whale book which Grandpa had picked up at the Friends of the Experimental Farm book sale.

As soon as Maman put out some veggies and hummus David enjoyed his favourite cucumber slices.

We gathered around the deck table for a delicious steak dinner. We toasted Pamela as it was her birthday today. Pizza cookie completed the meal.

After dinner we hiked down to the Gatineau River, blowing dandelion seeds. A Cedar Waxwing sang for us. David carried a little bowl of smarties. When Grant told him Barbara's favourite colour was yellow, David gave her his one yellow smartie (he ate it later on the way back). We walked along the railway track and found the path to Sean's dock. Here Sam had fun throwing sticks in the river for Boots. When Maman joined us she brought some fresh radishes from her garden.

It was a relaxing end to Father's Day.

Return from Canoe Trip

June 14, 2015

The Chelsea boys, Maman, Papa and Grant went on an overnight canoe/camping trip to an island in the Gatineau River north of the Paugan Dam in Low. Grandpa and Barbara joined them for dinner on their way home from the cottage. Lots of smiles and stories from the boys...

Fishing Day

June 7, 2015

On Sunday Maman was working and Papa brought the boys and Boots up to the cottage. Papa and Samuel (wearing an old sweatshirt of Papa's) were all set to catch some fish. Sam and Boots checked out the water - cold...

They soon were off. David was working on an animal puzzle with Grant and Barbara in the cottage but called out "bateau!" when the boat left. He seemed tired so Barbara settled him down for a nap.

A Common Merganser couple landed right at our waterfront.

When the fishers returned (no fish), we had lunch (nachos) and then Kirk helped Grandpa set up his downrigger (it needed a ground wire).  David like watching the boat. Sam had a good time throwing sticks for Boots. Grant and Sam helped winch the boat up. Then Sam invented a "slide" and both boys had fun sliding down the boat ramp.

All the men/boys went fishing. Sam proudly came back with a lake trout and a perch.

Grandpa barbequed the perch for supper. The boys roasted some marshmallows on Grant's fire.

Samuel caught a small American Toad to show us.

Before leaving, Sam and Papa chose some lures to keep from Grandpa Grant's old tackle box.Barbara gave David a plastic worm so he would have something too. David looked at it and said "Il est mort".
